WESLEY CHAPEL — A man died after he was ejected from a car that flipped on Interstate 275 Wednesday night, troopers said.
Benjy L. Hurley, 36, of New Port Richey was riding with Misty Dawn Gibson, 32, in a 2000 Chevrolet just after 5 p.m. As the car approached the intersection of I-275 and I-75, Gibson lost control, troopers said.
The Chevrolet drove onto the grassy median of the road and flipped over "several times," according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Hurley, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center, where he later died.
Gibson had been wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. She is in stable condition at St. Joseph's, officials said.
It was not immediately clear why Gibson lost control of the vehicle. An investigation is ongoing.
